Announcing: Free Speech TV's November 23-24 Media Campaign
Mobile-Eyes Against Military Interventions
Free Speech TV is proud to announce the next of its monthly program
specials, Mobile-Eyes Against Military Interventions. On the weekend of
November 23-24*, we'll present 48 hours of programming that shines a
spotlight on the growing opposition to war on Iraq with footage from 14
demonstrations from around the world, in-depth analysis of US foreign
policy and the "War on Terrorism," and documentaries on mass resistance
from Vietnam to the Persian Gulf Wars. A highlight of the weekend
extravaganza will be a Roundtable discussion moderated by Working Assets
Radio host and journalist Laura Flanders entitled, The Bush Doctrine:
Strategy for Security or Blueprint for Empire? Featured panelists are:
Saskia Sassen, University of Chicago Professor of Sociology and author
of The Global City; William Hartung, author and Director of the World
Policy Institute's Arms Trade Project; and Rahul Mahajan, anti-war
activist, author of The New Crusade and Texas Green Party gubernatorial
candidate
for 2002.
In addition to the Roundtable which will analyze Bush's new plan for
an American empire, featured documentaries such as Good vs. Evil: Bush's
Theology of War deconstructs the Bush Doctrine on Homeland Security; In
Whose Interest? presents a searing critique of US foreign policy since
WWII; and a speech by David Barsamian, author, producer and host of
Alternative Radio draws parallels between Nazi war propaganda and the
Bush war propaganda. We'll also have footage from Teach-Ins at CUNY
(City University, NY) which examined arguments on why entering into a
war with Iraq will not benefit the American people or help end the "War
on Terrorism."
After delving into these tough questions and more, in conjunction with
our partner organizations, the American Friends Service Committee,
ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism), Not In Our Name, and the
National Network to End the War on Iraq, Free Speech TV will present
steps viewers can take to pledge their resistance to US military
interventions in a variety of ways - through petitions, letters,
teach-ins and demonstrations.
About us: Free Speech TV is a progressive, non-commercial television
network that works with activists and artists to cultivate an informed
and active citizenry in order to advance social change. In this age of
corporate-controlled media, we present alternative ways to interpret the
world around us, empowering citizens to fight injustice and revitalize
democracy. Featuring diverse, eye-opening social, political, and
cultural works from independent producers and filmmakers, FSTV airs 24/7
on DISH Network, channel 9415 and part-time on almost 60 cable
affiliates across the country. Check out:
http://www.freespeech.org/fsitv/html/affiliates.shtml to find out where
FSTV broadcasts in your area. If your local provider doesn't carry FSTV,
contact your cable access station and ask them to pick us up!
What You Can Do: If you have a DISH, consider setting up a screening
on November 23-24. We're hoping that the issues addressed in Mobile-Eyes
Against Military Interventions will help support efforts your
organization may be taking to encourage the US government to use
diplomacy rather than military might in our national foreign policy. If
you are not working on this issue at present, we hope our programming
will help you to answer some of the tough questions that need to be
asked about US military interventions and illustrate that there are many
voices being raised in opposition - voices under-reported and
under-represented by mainstream press. And, if you can think of how we
can make more people aware of this important programming, please let us
know.
Don't Have a DISH? Check out our website. You can stream programs on
our website at http://www.freespeech.org. If you don't have a DISH and
would like to get one, you can find information on the website about how
to purchase and install one for about the same price as cable. If you
purchase a dish from FSTV, some proceeds help to support our
programming.
Stay tuned for upcoming Mobile-Eyes programs: Mobile-Eyes campaigns
are issue-based programs that connect grassroots groups, media activists
and audiences through high-visibility weekend or weeklong specials, with
the goal of mobilizing the masses.
ß Dec. 21-22, 2002: Mobile-Eyes on Creating Peace
ß February 1-2, 2003: Mobile-Eyes on Economic Justice and the
