Empty Bowls
is a simple meal of soup
and bread. Participants keep the bowl as a reminder of hunger in the world.
Donations go to local and an international hunger relief group. An evening of
good food and entertainment.
The Peace Garden
is a project to help feed ourselves as well as others in need. This project
will combine enjoyment of gardening with a service project. Come spend a little time getting your hands dirty with others.
Just Trade
facilitates community development and empowerment by cultivating a more equitable
global trade model that benefits farmers, workers, consumers, industry and the
earth.
Season for Nonviolence is an international grass-roots educational, media, and community action campaign
dedicated to demonstrating that nonviolence is a powerful way to heal, transform, and
empower our lives and our communities.

The El Dorado Peace and
Justice Community has been a presence promoting
peace and justice in our community since 1977. Some highlights
of our
activities over the years include:
-
Organized and collected
signatures for the statewide Nuclear Freeze Initiative in
1978.
-
Sponsored Town Hall
Forums and other educational activities about the dangers of
the nuclear arms race.
-
Worked to end the wars in
El Salvador and Nicaragua in the 80’s and 90’s.
-
Raised over $5,000 to
install a water delivery system for the village of Las
Jaguitas, Nicaragua.
-
Produced the Peace &
Justice Concert Series, bringing over 15 events featuring
politically relevant and inspiring music to our community.
-
Organized peace vigils
and other activities in opposition to both wars in Iraq.
-
Raised over $40,000
through our annual Empty Bowls supper to fight hunger both
in our community and throughout the world.
-
Initiated and continue to
particpate in the annual local Season for Nonviolence.
-
Established and continue
to sponsor “Just Trade” - a local Fair Trade project.
-
Developed the Peace
Garden, a project to feed ourselves as well as others in
need locally.
-
Created a website
providing information, calendar of events and links to other
resources.
-
Hold quarterly Board
meetings open to the public.
